FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)
Q. 1. What is a Performing Rights Organization (PRO)?
A. “Performing Rights Organization” or “PRO” is an organization collecting royalties on behalf of songwriters and publishers. A link is established between the owners of the composition copyright and the music users (such as radio, streaming services, television, local or national broadcasting, etc.) On your behalf, PROs will collect royalties due for the public broadcast of your registered music works and deposits them to you. The PRO that we use and recommend using is ASCAP (American Society of Composers Authors and Publishers).
Q. 2. What is a song split?
A. A split sheet is a written agreement that identifies each contributor to a song and establishes ownership percentages amongst them. Songwriter split sheets are an integral part of the music business. The agreed percentages determine how much each contributor will receive from the royalties generated by their music. Split sheets are necessary for every song you write with collaborators. They ensure that everyone involved in the creative process is properly credited and paid for the work they contributed. Splits are evenly shared between the writer and publisher. When you write the complete lyrics to one of our beats you own 50% of any royalties as the author of lyrics (writer) and we own 50% production as the composer.
You are the “writer of lyrics.” We are the “writers of music.”
***Your 50% is further broken down as follows;
- 25% writer/author of lyrics
- 25% Publishing company as part of your Performing Rights Organization (PRO).
(The PRO’s writer IPI number and your other 25% will be registered to your publisher ipi# totaling your 50%)
***Our 50% is further broken as follows
- 25% composer/writer of music (producer) PRO IPI# 1170552183
- 25% publishing company 8 Dollar Beats Pub. Publisher IPI 1171053983
Q. 3. How do we split the rights and royalties when it is time to release a song?
A. “8Dollar Beats” is the “Producer” of the beat and will have 50% ownership. You will be the “Writer/Author” of the lyrics and have 50% ownership.
The PRO designates ownership by assigning IPI numbers to your portion of the composition. An Interested Party Information (IPI) number is a unique, International Identification Number, usually 9–11 digits long. IPIs are assigned to songwriters, composers and music publishers. Within your 50% ownership you will receive 2 IPI numbers. For the first IPI, 25% of your ownership will be designated as a writer. For the second IPI, 25% of your ownership will be designated as a publisher. Both IPI numbers will total your 50% of ownership for royalties. We have already registered and have our assigned IPI numbers prior to loading the tracks on the website.
8Dollar Beats is registered with ASCAP
PRO IPI#: 1170552183, Publisher IPI#: 1171053983
Upon registering, your unique IPI numbers are added with our IPI numbers to collect royalties.
We highly recommend watching this very short video clip from the ASCAP website for clarity:
Q. 4. Can I collaborate with another writer on one of your tracks?
A. Absolutely, you can collaborate with as many writers as you like! Just know you would split your 50% of the ownership with whatever is proper and due for the portion of the song they wrote. Always remember, that 8Dollar Beats owns a full 50% for the production. Our 50% of ownership is static and never decreases. Your 50% of ownership is properly designated and shared with whomever you choose to register with in collaboration.

We produce the same music caliber and creativity as artists like Lil Baby, Young Thug, Future, Travis Scott, Lil Uzi Vert, Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Drake, 21 Savage, Don Tolliver, Summer Walker, H.E.R., Jhene Aiko, Ty Dolla $ign, and the list goes on and on! These are the same platinum quality beats that “Major Labels” request. They are now accessible and affordable to you for only $8!
Q. 13. Can other musical elements or instruments (other than vocals) be added to our tracks?
A. Unless you are a solo instrumentalist, clearance must be given for any other musical elements (other than vocals) that are added to our tracks. Any added music must be credited to that musician as well as their portion of royalties. (Unless they are paid as “work for hire”.)
